Still the Manning

By Alec Radzikowski, TheSportsHatch.com managing editor

Most of America wants the New Orleans Saints to win the Super Bowl later today and this isn't hard to fathom.

The recent disastrous earthquake in Haiti reminds everyone how cruel mother nature can be sometimes. The people of New Orleans learned this in 2005 and the area is STILL feeling the effects of Hurricane Katrina's devastation.

The Saints have never been to the Super Bowl. They used to be referred to as the 'Aints, back when Peyton Manning's dad Archie played for them. If there was ever a team and a city that could use this win today, it's New Orleans.

Unfortunately, this isn't going to happen. Peyton Manning will not lose this game.

This isn't to say this year's Super Bowl won't be a good one. In fact, most prognosticators say this game will be very close. Both teams can score at will, and many discussions are completely ignoring defense and special teams.

The Saints might even have an edge in these areas with Reggie Bush's punt returning and safety Darren Sharper's ball-hawking skills. Colts All-Pro defensive end Dwight Freeney has an injured ankle and it's been well publicized. All-world wide receiver Reggie Wayne suffered "tweaked" knee in practice this week.

Yet, this is all irrelevant. Did you notice Peyton's main targets two weeks ago? Wide receivers Austin Collie and Pierre Garçon are now the go-to guys. Tight end Dallas Clark is still dangerous and provides a security blanket that keeps the chains moving. There's no question Wayne is playing in this game, and if you ignore him, you're in trouble.

Manning simply has too many weapons and the Colts defense has played without its key players in the past. Freeney will reportedly suit up and although he's not 100%, his mere presence will provide a boost to a very fast and cohesive defensive squad that ranked 5th in the NFL this year.

Of course New Orleans deserves to be in this game and there's no reason why they can't win it. Peyton and the Colts must know that everyone wants them to lose. How's that for motivation? "Us against the world" isn't a bad story either.
